GREENLEE is a very Green name but apparently it was the inspiration for John GREENLEE (b.1786) and his wife Susanna to name their youngest child Green GREENLEE (b.1830) - I'm sure the kids on the playground were very kind.
Check out the recent updates to the GREENLEE family tree and see some of the other discoveries I've made. Here is a photo of Jacob GREENLEE (b.1853)
I love his beard! Very West Virginia!
It seems that our family may have had a shortage of eligible bachelors at one point. While researching the GREENLEE family I discovered that Hannah GREENLEE (b.1773) married her father's brother William GREENLEE (b.1771) who would later also marry a woman named Susanna MUSSELMAN (b.1775). There is still some digging into records to see if William was her uncle or her cousin But he was definitely a GREENLEE, and he married two women and both were alive and having children during the same length of time.
While our Scottish heritage is well documented it seems that we are a little more than just related to Scottish decedents. We are in fact the descendants of the Laid of the Johnston Clan! Research is on going, but so far the evidence is strong that the family name JOHNSON is directly tied to the Scottish clan JOHNSTON or JOHNSTONE. Sir William Johnston (b.1460) actually died in the Battle of Flodden Field. John JOHNSTON (b.1565) son, Sir George JOHNSTON would become the baronet of Nova Scotia in 1626 and sheriff of Aberdeen in 1630. The more I dig the more I find. One only wonders how deep this Scottish rabbit hole will go. I will try to update the JOHNSON family line as soon as possible!
Since starting this site I have come across many amazing stories about our family line, however, I've noticed that they can become lost in just the shear amount of information that is on the site. So I'd like to introduce this small section of the site where I will try to point out new discoveries, areas of research and road blocks that I come upon while researching our wonderful and rich family history! Additionally I may also take some time to point out some fascinating facts that you may have over looked just browsing through the site. Feel free to let me know if you have questions or ideas for further research.
