He sailed around the world!
Thomas ELDRED (b.1535) sailed with Sir Thomas Cavendish on the third trip EVER around the world. He left Plhymouth, England on 02 Jul 1586 and returned on 09 Sep 1588. Out of 123 men on 50 would return. This is a painting of him.
While research would suggest that the sur-name "IRISH" indicates a lineage that we could trace back to Ireland, it looks like in our family's case, that isn't the fact. A great place to start learning about the IRISH family is looking at JOHN IRISH (b.1600) who is considered to be the founder of the IRISH family in the United States. Learn more about him and his long line a ancestors, stretching back all the way to ADAM DE IREYS (b.1070) who fought in the First Crusade. More information coming soon!
Drum Castle in Aberdeenshire
While researching the Johnson (Johnston) Scottish Family history I came across the wife of Thomas Johnston b.1598 named Mary Irvine. It seems she lived in Drum Castle in Aberdeenshire. The castle itself is said to possibaly be the oldest occupied castle in Scotland, and it housed over 24 generations of the Irvine family. Want to learn more? Click HERE.
You can learn a lot about your ancestors by not only looking at their parents but also at their siblings and cousins. Look at the information on Samuel Sylvester ELDRIDGE's daughter Lomona Alice ELDRIDGE "HANNAH." There is a wonderful family photo of the Hannah family. What's interesting is their mention of Mrs. Yule from Iowa... This very well could be Mary Ellen "Nellie" ELDRIDGE who would later marry Edward Gordon YULE.
Born in 1783 in Shasbourg, Vermont. Ruby "Mosokwetos" NICHOLS has a very interesting name, she would later go on to marry Joseph USHER. Other's related to her have commented that she may have Native American heritage. While others have stated that her usual middle name is actually her nickname. Above is a quote by the controversial newspaper mogul William Randolph Hearst. Funny thing is that the WITTMEYER family is related to him. Hearst is a decedent of Johannes WIDMAYER (b.1652) if you scroll to the bottom of the page you can see the details on how we have a infamous branch on our family tree.
