| Meet Olin Frank SPENCER's 19th Great Grandfather: Sir John DEPSENCER born in 1235. He was a knight and is responsible for building the church of All Saints which now stands on the edge of Swallowfield Park. He and his brother Richard would join other barons in a civil struggle against King Henry III and both attended the Council at Oxford in 1258 commonly known as 'the Mad Parliament'. Later, long after his death, when remodeling the church it is said that they discovered the remains of what they believe to be his grave. The name "Spencer" still survives today in the parish of Swallowfield, both amongst the people and also in the village called "Spencer's Wood." |
