Thomas Spencer of King & Queen had 3 marriages instead of two. His first marriage was to Susannah Perry; his second marriage was to Elizabeth Whelling or Wheeling, whom he married in 1693, per parish records. She must not have lived very long because his third marriage (and the one for which he is known) was in 1694/5 to Anne Woodward, daughter of William Woodward.

William Spencer married Ann Woodward, a patentee in 1664 in New Kent County. (No doubt these people are in some way related to the Spencers and Woodwards who followed them). According to "Old New Kent County Some Accounts of the Planters, Plantations & Places in King william County St. John Parish Vols. I & II (compiled by Malcolm Hart Harris MD, 1977), Spencers Ferry crossing the Pamunkey River originally belonged to Thomas Spencer (p. 192). Spencer's Plantation on the SW corner of the road leading toward the York River was the site of the early Spencer home (p. 392). An Edward Spencer resided there in 1782; in 1800 a John Spencer resided there. (p. 273). Whem William Woodward died in September 1695, a surveyor by the name of James Minge (he was the surveyor for King & Queen), partitioned the property as follows: The upper part of Woodward divident lay along Duck creek (Montague Creek- 1,350 acres of land bet. Capt. Thos. Spencer and Ann Woodward his wife, who were alloted the upper part of the plantation on which the Spencers were living. the remainder was given to Martha Woodward and her second husband Capt. Nathaniel West (p. 741). Martha West deeded to Capt. Thomas Spencer 350 acres 30 July 1708 (p. 747)
